Thomas Schittek

The work of Thomas Schittek, German painter for many years living in Portugal, is part of a personal current, which crosses alongside contemporary art, moving away from it by the refusal of a referential target approaching it by the necessary questioning of his reading. In fact, Thomas Schittek has a working method where the foundation, the design is the subject of systematic extreme, a record almost archival, evolving the painting, using different techniques according to the objectives sought-expressive pastel, watercolor, oil and the tile, work of fire the painter so intensely dominates, not limited to painting, but working throughout the process of its craft production. Up to this point his works have been very evidently marked by his concern with the relationship between man and Nature. No painting is without the figures that symbolize Nature's cycles, as well as man with all his imperfections. The concave spaces in the figures, like parallel lines that enclose something, express the pulsations of the soul.
In his more recent paintings this narrow relationship between man, Nature and earth is still visible - browns and earth tones predominate; the other four basic colors of his "personal spectrum" are green, yellow, red and blue. Here the ole played by light is important: "I am concerned with how light is used in the paintings". His versatility in technique expresses the constant search for perfection in the transpose of thought. Born on January 8, 1964 in Munich, Germany, he graduated in printing techniques of the University of Munich, and in painting on glass and mosaic art by the Academy of Art in Munich.
In 1989 he received an art premium to study for one year in the 'Künstlerhaus
Lauenburg' in Germany.
